Be cunning, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
