Be cunning, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. Many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
