Be smart, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
