Be brilliant, play clever, and pickup craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
