Be clever, play clever, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
