Be smart, play smart, and learn how to play craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
