Be brilliant, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French moved down south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
