Be smart, play clever, and become versed in craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
