Be smart, play cunning, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French headed down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Most consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
