Be clever, play clever, and learn how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
