Be cunning, play clever, and master craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French moved south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
