Be smart, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
