Be cunning, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
