Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French moved down south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
