Be smart, play brilliant, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French moved south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
