Be smart, play smart, and master craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
