Be cunning, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
