Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. Many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
