Be brilliant, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
