Be clever, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
