Be smart, play clever, and discover how to play craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
