Be cunning, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French moved down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
